Spray Gun paint application is a painting technique in which a device, the spray gun sprays a coating of material (paint, ink, varnish, etc.) through the air onto a surface. Compressed air is used, via an air compressor to atomize and direct the paint particles .It is typically used for covering large surfaces with an even coating of liquid. How do you distinguish between a high-pressure gun and a low-pressure spray gun?

It is distinguished from the inlet air pressure, the operating air pressure to the spray gun. We generally call the gun in to the air pressure 0.5-2.5Bar low-pressure gun, into the air pressure between 3.5-4.5Bar become a high-pressure gun.

• Good atomization performance, slight overspray, less bounce, the high transfer efficiency of more than 65%
• Equipped with a small air compressor-Required by VOCs directive

CONS

• Required the flow of materials; a certain amount of thinner is needed
• Need some spraying skills, not friendly to newcomers
• Low transfer speed and reduced production efficiency

HVLP paint sprayers(high volume low pressure)

HVLP guns over the years have become perhaps the most popular and the most used among different types paint sprayers.

HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray guns use compressed air like conventional paint sprayers. These types of paint spray guns mix a high volume of air with the paint to atomize it.

Due to this fact, HVLP guns usually require a compressor with a high capacity and a high flow rate (measured by CFM).HVLP guns have a higher transfer rate of paint than conventional air spray guns. Because of this, they are both more efficient and are better for the environment.

HVLP guns are versatile tools and they are used in automotive industries, woodworking, decoration, architectural painting.

LVLP paint sprayers(low volume low pressure)

LVLP paint guns, like HVLP guns operate at a low pressure but they use lower volume of air when compared to other types of air paint guns.

Due to the fact that LVLP guns use a lower volume of air, they have an even higher transfer rate of paint than HVLP guns and LVLP guns don’t need the same amount of capacity for air compressors, and you can use a smaller air compressor if you don’t have a large one.

How do you select the correct air compressor? 

There are four important figures you must consider when you want to select the correct compressor:

1: The first and most important criteria before you can select an electric compressor is what electricity is available. Single phase or three phase and how many amps are available for the compressor. With three phase variable speed drive units, you multiply your kW by two to determine the Amps you require. All other three phase machines the horse power by two. Single phase machines you multiply the horsepower by five. (4 hp. = 3kW)

2: What volume of air do you require? This is litre/min or Cub Feet per min (cfm) or m3/min. Without one of these figures, you are lost.

3: What pressure do you need? This is measured in kPa, Bar or psi. Your compressor has a cut in and cut out pressure. The cut in pressure must be higher than the minimum pressure you require. Consider you still have a pressure drop from the compressor to the point of use.

4: What will your duty cycle be? Select the compressor suitable for the duty cycle. Screw or piston, variable speed drive, load unload or stop start. DIY, medium duty or heavy industrial duty.
